Juniper Pig Lift

A portable, winch-assisted lift that raises a pig gently off the ground for calm, controlled hoof trimming — legs free, body fully supported on a heavily padded bar.

Designed by Stephanie Rideout · 40-year Registered Veterinary Technician.

The Juniper Pig Lift — a dark steel wheeled frame with an overhead winch and yellow safety webbing supporting a padded central bar, photographed outdoors against a metal building.

How it works

One person, one calm lift.

  1. 01

Remove the back door. The pig walks in, then the door is replaced and locked behind it.

  2. 02

Lift with the touch of a button. The winch raises the pig smoothly, up to 32 inches off the ground.

  3. 03

The pig's legs hang down through the open area while its body rests, steady and supported, on a heavily padded bar — leaving hooves free to trim.

  4. 04

Once the work is done, lower the lift, remove the front door, and the pig walks right back out onto the ground.

Named for Juniper

The pig this lift is named for.

Juniper was born with a deformation in her front leg. At four months old, she was dumped on Craigslist.

A company that makes custom prosthetics — for all kinds of species — built her one of her own.

This lift is named for her.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is the Juniper Pig Lift for?
It was designed for safe pig handling and to make hoof trimming easier — raising the pig gently off the ground so its legs hang free and its body rests on a heavily padded bar. It is built to be portable.
How does a pig get in and out?
Remove the back door and the pig walks in; replace and lock the door, then lift with the touch of a button. When the procedure is complete, lower the lift, remove the front door, and the pig walks right out onto the ground.
How high does it lift?
The pig can be lifted up to 32 inches from the ground surface.
What size pigs does it fit?
The width for the pig is adjustable to 14 inches or 20 inches.
How much weight can it handle?
The lifting winch is rated at 1,500 lbs and is secured with a safety lockout system; the carabiners are rated at 2,697 lbs and the webbing at 1,600 lbs.
Is it easy to move around a facility?
Yes. The lift is built on a four-caster wheeled frame so it can be rolled where it's needed and stored out of the way between procedures.
